With a 4.9 is it better to ground on the alunimun block or the cast iron heads? I have a front mount battery just running the negative cable.

temp gauge not working 4.9 in an 84

so I was rounding off the little wiring bugs I have and found my temp gauge doesn't work in my 4.9. I've looked at mickeys wiring thread but my tps plug doesn't have the same colored wires. Mine are black, blue and grey and it seems my temp sender grounds thru the unit.when my sender isn't grounded...

Rough Idle with cold start of 4.9
